BJP names Amlan Bhaduri as party's Chief Whip in Bengal assembly ahead of budget
Trinamool Congress (TMC) youth leader Soumitra Banerjee became the latest party figure to be targeted in an egg-pelting incident on Tuesday in Raniganj. The assault occurred in broad daylight while Banerjee was in active police custody, being escorted to a local court following his recent arrest. As law enforcement officials guided him toward a waiting police vehicle, an agitated crowd breached the immediate perimeter, hurling a barrage of eggs while aggressively chanting "chor, chor, chor" (thief, thief, thief).
The sudden chaos left security personnel scrambling to shield the arrested politician from the volatile onlookers. Police officers on the scene had to quickly form a protective cordon around Banerjee to absorb the impact of the projectiles and push back the advancing protestors. After a brief but tense standoff on the court grounds, law enforcement managed to bring the unruly situation under operational control, safely securing Banerjee inside the vehicle and completing his transit to the judicial hearing.
Banerjee's arrest stems from a formal criminal complaint lodged by local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Keshari. The opposition leader has legally accused the TMC youth leader of orchestrating and executing physical attacks against BJP grassroots workers during recent local friction. The incident marks a highly visible manifestation of the deeply rooted, retaliatory political landscape currently playing out across the region's judicial and public squares.
